EXPORTING FROM THE MODELLING SOFTWARE TO 3D GENIUX

3D Format
3D GeniuX can import files form the following formats:
>DXF (Autocad®, Autocad®LT v.2000)
>3DS (3D Studio Max®)
>OBJ (Alias Wavefront® Object)
>X (Microsoft DirectX®)
>XTF (Xteam File)

Autocad DXF, pivot point, layers and blocks
Importing a DXF file, 3D GeniuX groups in the “Properties” window all blocks and entities belonging to the same layer into one sub-object. This will allow, for example, to change the colour of all the windows of a project with just one command.

In the architectural projecting software the pivotal point is usually located at the coordinates X=0, Y=0, Z=0, that correspond to the centre of the work area. If difficulties occur in rotating the object within 3D GeniuX it will be possible to centre the pivotal point with the command “Centre Object”.

Objects, sub-objects, sub-materials

It is necessary to export from the modelling software the 3D objects already grouped into sub-objects and sub-materials, because it is not possible to group them within 3D GeniuX.

See also “Properties” window

Texture
If the textures are in the same folder as the 3D object, the software will load them automatically, otherwise if they are in different folders it will be necessary to reassign them to each single part, from the “Properties” window>Load Texture.

Specular Highlights, transparency of materials
3D GeniuX is able to import mirror effect and transparency values, when the importing format will allow it. It is possible to change in any moment these characteristics within 3D GeniuX.

UV Mapping
3D GeniuX is able to import UV Mapping values, when the importing format allows that. It is possible to change in any moment these characteristics within 3D GeniuX.

Pivot point
3D GeniuX is able to import pivotal point values. Within 3D GeniuX it is only possible to centre the pivotal point on the basis of the object’s size. It is not possible to move it freely in any point. In the architectural projecting software the pivotal point is usually located at the coordinates X=0, Y=0, Z=0, that correspond to the centre of the work area.

Other data
3D GeniuX imports only polygonal structures.
Structures made of Dots, Lines, Bezier Curves, Spline, NURBS will not be imported.
Animation Data, Dummy Objects, Bones, Inverse Cinematic, Keyframes, Skinning objects are not supported.
We suggest to convert all 3D structures in polygons to enable 3D GeniuX to correctly import them.
